Property improvements can also be achieved by applying a plasma pretreatment during metallization.

Hostaphan® RNK 2600 offers an outstanding metal adhesion.

Hostaphan® YNK achieves a golden glossy appearance after metallization.

Metallized HOSTAPHAN® polyester film is the best solution when it comes to high gas barrier levels and aroma and flavor retention.
Metallizing of PET film under vacuum conditions is a proven technology to achieve special optical properties or a metal look for decorative applications and as mentioned above to reduce the diffusion of gases and flavors through the film. The most commonly used metal is aluminum but other metals can be applied also.
HOSTAPHAN® polyethylene tereph- thalate (PET) film is one of the best substrates for metallizing purposes and can be metallized without any pretreatment.
Due to its high surface energy a high metal adhesion as well as good homogeneity of the metal layer are achieved, leading to a high oxygen and general gas barrier as well as a significant improvement of the water vapour barrier.
Our HOSTAPHAN® RNK series is designed to yield stable high gas barrier values when metallized. If an even higher oxygen barrier is required it is recommended to use our specialty dual surface film types HOSTAPHAN ® RHBY or HOSTAPHAN® RD. Metal adhesion can be further improved using our 2600 type coating.
