Mitsubishi Polyester Film Group became a part of Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. under Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation.

2005

Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH celebrates the 50th anniversary of the world class brand HOSTAPHAN ®

1998

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation takes over the outstanding Hoechst Diafoil shares from the Hoechst AG to establish the Mitsubishi Polyester Film Group, a World Wide Leader and Innovator in the Polyester Films business.

1997/98

Start-up of a jumbo high speed line in Wiesbaden, setting new standards with three layer co-extrusion films for packaging and industrial applications

1991/93

Globalization of the Polyester Film Business with the foundation of the Hoechst-Mitsubishi Joint Venture, start-up of a world class line for video film in Wiesbaden capitalizing on the global power of joined technology and experience of Mitsubishi and Hoechst

1985

Start-up of a production line in Wiesbaden for tensilized and super- tensilized HOSTAPHAN®, films with superior mechanical strength in longitudinal direction designed to satisfy the requirements of the emerging market for special magnetic tape applications

1984

Second quantum leap of productivity with first 8 m line for HOSTAPHAN® installed in Greer, South Carolina.

1979

Start of globalization of PET film business with acquisition of PET films production from Celanese, predecessor of today’s Mitsubishi Polyesterfilm Inc. in Greer, South Carolina, USA.

First trials with co-extrusion of two layers of polymer

First quantum leap of productivity with installation of a production line with more than 4 m width, at this times the world wide biggest and most modern boPET film line.

Start-up of the first HOSTAPHAN® line for commercial production in Wiesbaden

First pilot line for HOSTAPHAN® biaxially oriented PET film (boPET) in Wiesbaden, max width 0,8 m

License from ICI to produce polyester film

1952

Re-foundation of Kalle & Co. AG in Wiesbaden as wholly owned daughter of Hoechst AG following the post World War II period of operation under US administration.

1941

J.R. Whinfield and J.T. Dickson from the Calico Printers Association invented Polyester made out of Ethylenglycol and Terephthalic Acid. Subsequently the rights to exploit this invention have been transferred to ICI.

First production of film in Wiesbaden, Cellophane®

Kalle and Hoechst joined their forces

1863

Foundation of  “Etablissement Meister, Lucius & Co” in Ffm Hoechst, predecessor of Hoechst AG and of “Kalle & Co. KG” in Wiesbaden, predecessor of the plant site where Mitsubishi Polyesterfilm GmbH is located. Both companies have their business focus on dye production.
