To meet the expectations of our customers, tuning of the surface properties of HOSTAPHAN ® polyester film is a key issue. The surface structure is important for the gloss and the structure can be transferred to other materials. But the most important point is that the film surface is the link to other materials like coatings or printed images.
HOSTAPHAN ® polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) film already has superior properties like high surface tension insuring a good wetting of customer’s coating solutions or dispersions important for a strong and stable bond in laminates or a clear impression of printings.
For a number of applications polyester film needs further improvements. This is done by surface treatment of the film.
Our state of the art adhesion promoting coatings 2600 or 4600 respectively improve the metal adhesion in a way that the attempt to separate the metallized layer from film usually leads to a complete destruction of the film but not to delamination.
2600 and 4600 coated film is also the material of choice for water based or alcohol containing coatings or coating dispersions as well as printing inks. Both lead to a very good wettability and strong bond to the polyester film.
Solvent based layers in general show a good connection with our CSR coating. CSR coating is also the first choice if the final product has to be sterilized.
Sealing layers on a polyolefin base especially such applied by extrusion coating fit best with the DEF coating. DEF also leads to high adhesion strength with special metal layers and UV curing coatings.
Film handling is often improved if the static charge is eliminated. Polyester film as a good electrical insulator tends to build up static charges at the surface. In order to avoid this, discharging equipment is often installed in coating, printing and laminating equipment. If this is not the case or not sufficient, our antistatic coatings like ASE solve the problem.
