WORLD CLASS IN POLYESTER FILM

SCOPE:

This method may be used for the following films only:

• HOSTAPHAN 2DEF
• HOSTAPHAN 3SAB
• HOSTAPHAN 2600
• HOSTAPHAN 4600

MATERIALS:

• Blue Ink Marker - Sanford Vis-A-Vis Blue Wet Erase Marker (01500 series)
• Scotch^® Brand Adhesive Tape, number 610 from 3M

Both items are available from most office supply stores.*

METHOD:

• Lay a sample of the film** to be tested on a horizontal surface and "J" fold.
• Draw a continuous line on both surfaces of the film using the blue marker.
• Allow the ink to dry for two minutes.
• Apply the 610 Scotch tape to the ink and rub firmly with finger or thumb.
• Remove the tape with a "ripping" motion and observe.

RESULTS:***

• If the ink remains mostly on the polyester - that side of the film is chemically primed.
• If the ink transfers mostly onto the tape - that side of the film is not primed

 

* It is critical that the marker and tape used are those specified above, otherwise the test is not meaningful.

** When testing the outside of a fresh roll of HOSTAPHAN as shipped from Mitsubishi Polyester Film, one full wrap of film should be removed from the roll before performing the test. It has been observed that the blue polyethylene dust cover in which HOSTAPHAN films are shipped, can leave a residue on the outside wrap of the film which interferes with the blue marker test.

*** This test is intended for unprocessed film only. Results on film which has been corona treated, printed, laminated, coated or otherwise processed can be subject to misinterpretation.
